Golf For Her : 10 Things to Know Before Your First Round

Golf season is upon us! If this is your first season playing, or you still consider yourself to be a novice, check out the Golf for Her newsletter. They offer practical advice for getting into the game.

Here are some great tips for those gearing up for their first round.

Golf For Her : 10 Things to Know Before Your First Round.

I was never good with printing pictures back when we did those things, so I suppose it’s only fitting I am delayed on posting them to my blog. In all seriousness, I was so excited after my tournament that I shared the photos my beautiful friend Shaina took with my friends and family, and I forgot to write a post! I invite you to scroll through my album link below. I won’t add a string of photos here, just one of my favorites from the day; me at the registration table. This picture serves more than 1,000 words, it captures a vision I had almost a year ago, and to me it looks perfect.

The Practice Round 9.14.14

The Day Before…

We are one day away from the Practice Round event…it’s hard to believe it’s already here. I can be a sap sometimes, so if I catch my eye watering for a moment I won’t be surprised. I’ve heard it said many times that bringing a dream to fruition is like giving birth, it’s your baby, your purpose coming into the world. There is truth to that, and I have to admit, my level of excitement and anticipation is at an all time high.

When I first spoke about my desire to host a golf tournament,  it was to a complete stranger who immediately challenged me to do it, offered her accountability and support and became a mentor. But in that moment of sharing I felt more fear than confidence. Not soon after my dream spilled out of my mouth, I thought, “Why did I just tell her that?” “Now what if I fail?” “It was safe as a thought, now you’ve just exposed yourself!” It is amazing how fast doubt and fear move in on your dreams and goals.  Instead of giving into them and giving up, let it be a sign that you are doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing. It’s like when people from the military tell you that pain is good, because it’s your body’s way of telling you that you’re not dead. Your dreams and goals aren’t meant to be “kept safe” inside as thoughts. I’d encourage you to share them and enjoy being reminded that you are not dead.

So, fast forward to today, the day before. I feel humbled to be able to share my dream and vision with close to 40 people tomorrow. The support and encouragement I’ve received from so many people has been wonderful. About 11 months ago I had an idea, and tomorrow I will have an event. This is far from the end, I’m just getting started, you’ll see. And next year, you’ll be a part of the experience, too!

Thank you!

What’s a Scramble, Anyway?

If you’ve signed up for The Practice Round, or plan to (and you should be planning to) you know that we are going to play a 4-person Scramble format.

What is a Scramble format, you ask?

A Scramble means, every person in the foursome takes a tee shot, and the best shot of the four is then selected for the second shot. All four golfers then take their second shot, and the best shot of those is selected for the third. This repeats until the ball finds its way to the hole.

What I love about Scrambles is that you don’t have to be great in every area! The pressure is off to make the PGA Tour shot every time. Maybe you’re a Driving Range Professional and can take it off the tee, maybe you’re the person with the good eye and touch for a great approach, or maybe you putt like a champ…whatever your strength, a scramble lets you play to it.

As a foursome, you will be working together to record the lowest score possible. And while I can’t assure your team will be successful at posting a low score, I can assure you’ll have a good time doing it, even if you do end up loosing a few golf balls. And that’s the whole point of the Practice Round…to give you a low pressure way to play the game of golf with your friends.

See you on the links!
